Our In-House Mediators
Dyson Panko, Q. Med Recognized Family Mediator
The philosophy at the heart of my practice is service to life. I believe that everything we do is an attempt to meet a human need. When conflict arises, it is often because one or more important needs are going unmet.
Dyson Panko
Hi, I’m Dyson, a professional mediator with CSM.
I grew up just south of Saskatoon on an acreage with ten siblings. With so many different perspectives, personalities, and interests under one roof, I learned early that people can co-exist well when everyone has a voice and everyone contributes what they can. That upbringing shaped how I understand conflict, cooperation, and the importance of making space for different needs. ... (read more)
As a child, I was drawn to team sports, especially hockey and football. After graduating high school, I joined the Canadian Armed Forces, where I spent five years developing discipline, leadership, and a deeper appreciation for teamwork, structure, systems, and process. I left the Armed Forces in December 2020 to focus fully on my civilian career and continued developing my skills in conflict resolution. I completed my initial mediator training in mid-2024, applied for my Q.Med designation, and began my mediation practice in 2025, taking on my first file in January of that year.
My mediation practice is grounded in facilitative mediation. My role is to guide a productive conversation between the people in conflict, helping them clarify the issues, identify the interests and needs of everyone involved, and brainstorm practical options that can work for all parties. The process I use is the Six-Phase Understanding Model, which is explained in more detail here: https://commonsensemediation.ca/managing-conflicts-during-the-april-school-break/.
The philosophy at the heart of my practice is service to life. I believe that everything we do is an attempt to meet a human need. When conflict arises, it is often because one or more important needs are going unmet. Rather than seeing conflict only as a problem, I see it as an opportunity to better understand what matters, access creativity, and generate solutions that support everyone involved.
I believe people have the capacity to solve their own problems when they are supported by a clear process, mutual recognition, and meaningful conversation. I often think of my role as a translator: helping parties move away from language that separates, blames, or alienates, and toward language that connects them to themselves, each other, and the needs underneath the conflict.
I believe conflict can shift when people feel empowered and recognized. When the quality of the interaction moves from destructive to constructive, new possibilities become available. To learn more about conflict spirals and how they can be used to support peace, you can read more here: https://commonsensemediation.ca/conflict-spirals-how-conflict-turns-downward-and-how-it-can-turn-back-up/.
I look forward to connecting with you as a mediator or conflict resolution coach.

Demi Peters, C. Med, Recognized Family Mediator
I continue my education and my practice, and look forward to being a mediation trainer, inspiring the next generation of dispute resolution professionals, while also supporting people going through difficult times in their lives.
Demi Peters
Hi, I’m Demi, a chartered mediator at CSM.
In 2015, I left a government job to take a chance on an exciting new career opportunity – opening a law firm with my mother. Little did I know the chance I was taking would inspire me, challenge me, and would ignite the most dramatic growth of my life. ... (read more)
As part of my new role, I was given the gift of mediation training. At the time, I was skeptical about the practice of mediation – “people pay for this?” I often wondered. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, the gift of that mediation training would be one of the most valuable gifts I ever received.
When I was going through my initial mediation training and mentorship, I often thought “seems easy enough – a monkey could do this!”, yet, as soon as I started carrying my own files, I realized the depth and complexity that encompasses the conflicts that people have with one another. It’s not as simple as a conversation – a mediator is a translator that needs to assess and guide the parties, learning each person’s individual conflict language and helping to create shared meaning.
After my first few years in my position and practicing mediation, I received another opportunity for growth – I became a mother. Those first months, though definitely in survival mode, are simple compared to negotiating with toddlers. The mediation skills I had developed in my professional life, were useful in my parenting life as well.
Through welcoming more children earthside, and continuing my mediation education and practice, I have grown more curious, more accepting, more considerate, and know that being a mediator is a commitment to ongoing learning and growth. There will always be a new tool to learn and add to my toolkit.
In 2026, I received the Chartered Mediator designation. This designation allows for me to give back to new and aspiring mediators by conducting Qualified Mediator assessments and more formally providing mentorship. I am also a recognized family mediator and give back to new and aspiring mediators through supervising family mediators as they seek their recognition through the early dispute resolution office.
I continue my education and my practice, and look forward to being a mediation trainer, inspiring the next generation of dispute resolution professionals, while also supporting people going through difficult times in their lives. Going through mediation might not be a delight and the participants might dread it, but with the right guidance, shared meaning can be discovered, relationships can be restored, and a brighter future can be built.
